History
Ōarai Isosaki Jinja is famous as a scenic shrine situated on a cliff facing the Pacific Ocean. An ancient shrine mentioned in the Engi Shiki, the torii gate standing in the sea creates a mystical landscape reminiscent of the world of myth. This shrine, dedicated to Ōnamuchi no Mikoto and Sukunabikona no Mikoto, has watched over people's lives along with the blessings of the sea. The sunrise here is particularly beautiful, and the solemn scenery woven by the morning sun and torii gate touches many hearts. As a deity of the sea and a deity of matrimonial ties, this is one of the most renowned shrines in Ibaraki Prefecture, visited by many pilgrims from distant places.
