History
Taihō Hachiman-gū is known as the oldest Hachiman shrine in the Kanto region and is a highly prestigious shrine. Founded in 701 (Taihō 1st year), it boasts a history spanning over 1,300 years. It enshrines Emperor Ōjin and the three Hachiman deities, and is also famous as a sacred site with connections to the Minamoto clan. Many warriors, including Taira no Masakado and Minamoto no Yoshiie, are said to have prayed for victory at this shrine. Even today, people from across the nation visit to pray for protection from calamities and good fortune in contests. The beautiful sanctuary is designated as a National Important Cultural Property. This is truly one of the most renowned shrines in the Kanto region, where one can feel the divine power cultivated through long history and the protection of Hachiman.
