Jikoji is an ancient temple located in Nishi Dodo-cho, Onomichi, standing at the top of a stone staircase befitting Onomichi's hillside character. This temple is also known as the 'Stone Temple,' celebrated for its beautiful stone structures and stone Buddhist statues. Particularly famous are the small stone Buddhas called 'nigiri butsu,' which visitors can hold in their hands while making wishes. The warmth of the stone when held is believed to soothe the heart and fulfill wishes. The view overlooking the townscape of Onomichi from the temple grounds is also magnificent, offering a place for peaceful worship.
