Takeno Shrine

Known by the epithet Itsuki-no-Miya (the Consecrated Palace), Takano Shrine in Tango-cho, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture is listed in the Engishiki as a major imperial shrine (shikinaisha daisha) and held the rank of prefectural shrine (fusha) under the modern shrine ranking system. The Sakurai family has served as chief priests for generations — the current priest being the 59th in this unbroken lineage. Revered as a spiritual cornerstone of the Tango region since ancient times, the shrine stands with quiet yet unmistakable divine presence amid the natural landscape of the Tango Peninsula.
