zeze jinja

Zeze Jinja is enshrined in Zeze, Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, with a former shrine rank of prefectural shrine (kensha). Located in an area that prospered through Lake Biwa water transport, the shrine has long been revered as a guardian deity of the community. It grew in prestige alongside the development of the Zeze castle town, and received patronage from the Zeze clan lords during the Edo period. Today, festivals including the annual ceremony continue to be held, making it a spiritual anchor for the people of Otsu.
