Shukuin Tongū

Shukuin Tonguu is a shrine located in Sakai Ward, Sakai City, Osaka Prefecture. A tonguu is a temporary resting place for a portable shrine during its procession. Situated along the ancient pilgrimage routes of Sakai, this shrine has long served as a waystation where travelers and worshippers could rest and pray. Though the patterns of travel have changed over the centuries, the shrine continues to fulfill its role as a guardian and place of spiritual refuge in the historic city of Sakai.
