Soirinji Temple, formally known as Sharasojurinji, is an ancient temple of the Tendai sect nestled in Washio-cho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto. Its name evokes the sal trees beneath which Shakyamuni Buddha entered nirvana. The principal images are Yakushi Nyorai — the Buddha of healing — and Daisho Kangiten, whose miraculous powers for curing illness and warding off disasters have been venerated for centuries. Within the tranquil sanctuary of Higashiyama, the flame of prayer continues to burn undimmed across the ages.
