History

Byakko

Omiwa Jinja, with Mount Miwa itself as its sacred object, is renowned as one of Japan's oldest shrines. It enshrines Omononushi no Okami and its history is recorded in both the Kojiki and Nihon Shoki, making it a shrine of proper antiquity. Without a main hall, it conveys an ancient form of worship in which Mount Miwa is directly venerated, and is also called "Japan's oldest shrine." Famous as the deity of sake brewing, it receives devoted faith from sake brewers throughout the nation. Highly popular as a power spot, it is a representative shrine of Nara visited by many pilgrims.
