Honren-ji, formally Seirinzan Honren-ji, is a Nichiren Buddhist temple in Nagasaki City. It was founded through the vow of Kato Kiyomasa as one of five temples established to spread the Lotus Sutra throughout Kyushu — representing the character Ren (lotus) of the sutra's title. Opened by the priest Honzuiin Nikei, the temple once ranked alongside Kotai-ji and Daion-ji as one of the Three Great Temples of Nagasaki. Affiliated with the Rokujomon school of Honkoku-ji, it continues to transmit the Tasshi dharma lineage.
