History
Sankoji is the head temple of the Seizan sect, located on the slopes of Kamoseyama in Nishikyo Ward, Kyoto. The temple is deeply associated with Shouku (Seizan Kokushi), who founded the sect. Its honorific mountain name is Seizan, and its principal object of worship is the Nyoho Butsugen Mandala. Pilgrims and practitioners have long climbed the mountain path to offer prayers at this sacred site.
