History

Byakko

Chihaya Shrine, also known as Kusunoki Shrine, is located in Chihaya, Chihayaakasaka Village, Minamikawachi District, Osaka Prefecture. Its former shrine rank was prefectural shrine (fusha). The three enshrined deities are Takehaya Susanoo-no-Mikoto, Kushiinadahime-no-Mikoto, and Oyamatsumi-no-Mikoto. The shrine has deep ties to Kusunoki Masashige, who built Chihaya Castle on this land during the turbulent Northern and Southern Courts period, and has long been revered as the guardian deity of the Kusunoki clan. The shrine grounds, refined through the Meiji-era separation of Buddhism and Shinto, feature ancient sacred trees and stone lanterns that convey centuries of history. To this day, it quietly watches over the lives of the local community as the local guardian deity.
