History

Byakko

Known affectionately as Takoyakushi-do, Eifukuji is an ancient temple nestled amid the vibrant bustle of Kyoto's Shinkyogoku district. An age-old legend recounts how the spirit of an octopus, manifesting as the compassionate Yakushi Nyorai, rescued those suffering from eye afflictions. True to its name, the temple is revered for its special power in healing eye diseases, restoring vision to those who have lost sight. Guided by the azure light of Yakushi Nyorai, countless pilgrims continue to walk the path from darkness into light, their steps never ceasing at this blessed sanctuary.
