History
Shisendo, also known as Jousan-ji, was built as a haven for literati seeking creative refuge. Displaying portraits of thirty-six great poets, it captures the spirit of those who mastered the sublime art of verse. The transformation of samurai warrior Kanoh Shoushin into a poet flows through these halls, elevating visitors' spirits and inspiring brush to paper and voice to poetry. The passion of these ancient poets transcends time, forever kindling the creative flame within the hearts of contemporary verse-makers.
