History
Buttsu ji is the head temple of the Rinzai school, Buttsu ji branch, located in Mihara and is also called the 'Kenchōji of the West.' Established during the Muromachi period as a tutelary temple of the Kobayakawa clan, it boasts a long history as a Zen training monastery. The grounds contain many cultural treasures and are also known as a noted site for autumn foliage. While strict Zen practice based on Buddhist teachings takes place, many people visit seeking peace of mind, surrounded by the serene environment and beautiful natural scenery of the four seasons.
