Yashima-ji is the eighty-fourth pilgrimage site of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Circuit and stands as an ancient temple on the mountaintop of Yashima. Situated in Yashima, famous for the Genpei War, it has watched over this historic stage throughout the ages. The principal image, the Thousand-Armed Kannon Bodhisattva, is venerated as a compassionate Buddha who saves all sentient beings. The pilgrimage experience here allows visitors to purify their hearts along with the spectacular views of Yashima, and as an important pilgrimage site, it attracts many pilgrims. The view from the temple grounds overlooking the Seto Inland Sea is truly like the Pure Land itself.
