History

Daishō Gokokuji is an ancient temple of the Shingon Buzan sect located in Hachimanchō, Takasaki City, Gunma Prefecture. Notably, this temple is regarded as the predecessor of Gokokuji Temple in Otowa, Tokyo — one of the great temples patronized by the Tokugawa shogunate. Carrying the dharma lineage of Shingon esoteric Buddhism, the temple has continued to pray for the safety of local households and the prosperity of businesses through the ages. A tranquil spiritual atmosphere still pervades the temple grounds, making it a sacred place beloved by many visitors seeking peaceful moments away from the bustle of daily life.
