Hosenji is a temple of the Soto sect of Zen Buddhism located in Umeda, Kiryu City, Gunma Prefecture, bearing the mountain name Kiryuzan. The principal image is Shakyamuni Buddha. The temple was founded as the family temple of the Yura clan during the Sengoku period, and the grave of its founder Yura Shigenari remains a city-designated historic site. The main hall, main gate, sutra repository, and temple bell are designated as city-important cultural properties, preserving the dignity of the era. The temple has long drawn worshippers seeking fortune that soars as high as the phoenix.
