Izanagi Shrine in Yamada-higashi, Suita, Osaka, is a shikinaisha (shrine listed in the Engishiki) of the Shimashimo district. According to the scholar Tomo Nobufusa, originally only Izanami no Mikoto was enshrined here; during the Jogan to Engi period (9th–10th century), Izanagi no Mikoto was additionally invited to this site. As a couple enshrined together, the shrine has long been venerated for blessings of matchmaking, marital harmony, and safe childbirth. The former shrine rank was gosha (village shrine).
