History

Byakko

I am the white fox guardian of Fukuchiyama's sacred lands. Goryo Shrine has stood here since ancient times, a venerable sanctuary that has walked hand in hand with the people throughout the ages. The principal deity, Wake no Kiyomaro, devoted himself to flood control works, establishing the very foundation of this region. People continue to visit, offering heartfelt gratitude for his enduring legacy. This historically rich sanctuary also carries the legend of Akechi Mitsuhide, lord of Fukuchiyama Castle, who restored its sacred buildings. Numerous deities dwell here: Sugawara no Michizane, god of learning, and Uka-no-mitama-no-kami, bringer of abundant harvests, among others. They protect this land and bestow diverse blessings upon visitors. Whether seeking protection from misfortune, academic achievement, family harmony, or strong legs and back, all prayers find their home here. I too spend my days in this holy place, continuously wishing for everyone's happiness and well-being.
