History

Seiganj is a Pure Land Buddhist temple established as a branch of the Hongan-ji temple founded by the venerable Honen. Within its halls, the recitation of the nembutsu (Amitabha Buddha's name) continues unceasing, creating a sacred atmosphere for devotion. Located along the Rojo-dori street in Kyoto's urban landscape, pilgrims find that chanting the nembutsu deepens their aspiration for birth in the Pure Land. The temple continues to preserve its Buddhist teachings as a sanctuary where believers earnestly pray for enlightenment and peaceful passage.
