History

Byakko

Ensconced in the depths of Shikagastani valley, this shrine has long been venerated as protector of women and children. A magnificent thousand-year-old ginkgo tree stands beside the main hall, its overwhelming presence embodying divine spirit. Many pilgrims visit en route to Kiyomizu Temple, and for centuries this sanctuary has been steadfast guardian of Kyops women. Particularly efficacious for prayers seeking prosperous descendants.

So fun that they have shrines for different animals (I believe there was a mouse, snake, fox, monkey, and bird). I prayed at Daikoku-sha, as it is the mouse shrine after all. A couple asked me how to pray at Shinto shrines, so I got to teach them, which was cool.
