History

Byakko

Aizu Jinja is enshrined in the historic land of Aizu and stands as one of the representative shrines of the Aizu region. Located near the once-central area of Aizu in Kita-Aizu Town of Aizu-Wakamatsu City, it has long gathered the faith of the people of Aizu. Aizu has been the stage for numerous historical events including the Boshin War, and this shrine has witnessed the turbulent ages. It plays an important role as a symbol of the spiritual culture unique to this region, such as the bushido spirit and the Aizu spirit. The place name Miyashiro itself speaks to the shrine's history, and it has been carefully preserved to this day as a sacred place that serves as a spiritual anchor for the local people.
