History

Byakko

Isasumi Jinja is the oldest shrine in the Aizu region, boasting a history of over 2,000 years. It is said to have been founded during the reign of the tenth Emperor Sujin, and has been revered as the founding kami of Aizu. When the Shido Generals, Oyobiko no Mikoto and his son Takenumagawabetsuno Mikoto, pacified Aizu, they enshrined the kami at this location, which marks the beginning of the shrine. Deeply revered by Aizu clan lords, it serves as the "Grand Protector of Aizu," the guardian kami of the entire region.
