History

Byakko

Yoshimineji stands as the twentieth sacred site in the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage, an ancient temple rising high in Kyoto's western mountains. According to tradition, it was established in the second year of Chogen, maintaining its sacred flame for nearly a thousand years. The principal image of Juichimen Kannon is deeply venerated as a manifestation of compassionate Avalokiteshvara descended upon Kyoto's western region. A twelve-hundred-year-old pine tree, known as the Welcoming Pine, warmly greets all who approach. Within the clear winds of the western mountains, the radiance of Kannon's boundless compassion continues to shine eternally, blessing all pilgrims upon this sacred path.
