History
Kenkungu was founded in 1868 to enshrine Oda Nobunaga. Located on the slopes of Funaoka Mountain, it stands in a place with fine views that Nobunaga would have favored. Nobunaga is known as an innovative warlord of the Sengoku period who broke through old conventions and opened a new era. Thus this shrine is particularly believed to bestow blessings of great wish-fulfillment and flourishing advancement. From the grounds, one can overlook the entire city of Kyoto, and while viewing the same scenery as Nobunaga, one can harbor great ambitions—truly a shrine befitting those who aim to conquer the realm.
