Ega-no-Nagano-no-Nishi-no-Misasagi, located in Fujiidera, Osaka, is a keyhole-shaped burial mound designated by the Imperial Household Agency as the mausoleum of the 14th Emperor Chuai. Dating to the late 5th century, it ranks 16th in size among all ancient burial mounds in Japan and is one of the constituent tumuli of the Furuichi Kofun Group, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has long been revered as a sacred site embodying the dignity of the imperial lineage. From an archaeological perspective, however, leading theories suggest it may instead be the true burial place of Emperor Yuryaku (the 21st emperor) or of Wakatakeru, one of the Five Kings of Wa. The mausoleum continues to attract visitors who come to pay respects to the ancient imperial legacy.
