Honden Hachiman-gu is situated directly before the mausoleum of Emperor Ojin and is truly the birthplace of Hachiman worship. As one of the most prestigious Hachiman shrines enshrining Emperor Ojin, it has since ancient times received the reverence of both the imperial court and the warrior class. The shrine grounds contain numerous national treasures and important cultural properties, allowing visitors to feel the weight of its history. It is particularly known for blessings of military fortune and victory in contests, with records remaining of many warlords, including members of the Minamoto clan, visiting to pray for victory in battle. In modern times, athletes and those engaged in competitive endeavors continue to maintain strong faith in the shrine.
