History

Byakko

Oosasahara Shrine stands in Osasahara, Yasu City, Shiga Prefecture, and has long served as the general guardian shrine of the area, bearing the former rank of village shrine (gōsha). The principal deity, Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who defeated the fearsome Yamata-no-Orochi, is revered for warding off calamity and driving away pestilence. His consort, Kushiinadahime-no-Mikoto, draws worshippers seeking blessings for marriage and safe childbirth, while their offspring, the Yahashira-no-Mikoto, are honored for ensuring the prosperity of descendants. Historical records suggest the shrine received patronage from the Sasaki clan, guardians of Omi Province during the medieval period. Today, the wooded precinct quietly receives the prayers of all who visit through the changing seasons.
