History

Byakko

Ishikiyoo Hachimanguu is a historic shrine that has watched over Takamatsu as the supreme guardian shrine of Sanuki. With Emperor Ojin as its principal deity, it is worshipped as the guardian god of the Minamoto clan and gathers deep faith as a deity of military fortune and victory. Successive lords of Takamatsu Castle have visited in worship, and it has served an important role as a spiritual pillar for the samurai of Sanuki. Today, beloved as the tutelary deity of Takamatsu residents, it remains a community-rooted shrine where many visit at life's milestones such as New Year's prayers and children's blessing ceremonies.
