History

Byakko

Saifukuji, formally known as Keikouzan Keishinin, is a temple of the Jodo sect located in Rokkucho, Higashiyama Ward, Kyoto. Its principal image is Amida Nyorai. The Kozodatejizo enshrined within its grounds is widely venerated for protecting the health of children and healing illness. The temple stands near the Rokudo no Tsuji — historically the gateway to the Toribeno burial grounds — a sacred liminal space between life and death. Together with Rokuharamitsuji and Rokudo Chinnonji, it continues to keep the dharma flame alive in this ancient quarter of Kyoto.
