History

Yaei Jinja in Momoidani, Ikuno, Osaka, traces its origins to the Bunroku era (1592-1595), when Susanoo-no-Mikoto was invited from Kumano Taisha in Izumo Province. Originally called Gozu Tenno Sha and revered as the tutelary deity of the old village of Kono-mura, it was renamed Yaei Jinja and listed as a village shrine in 1872. In 1910, Mitachi Jinja from the neighboring village of Oka, enshrining Emperor Nintoku, was merged into the shrine. Today two deities are enshrined: Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Emperor Nintoku. The annual festival includes a procession to Ajihara Otabisho and Oka Otabisho, and the shrine continues to serve as a center of local faith.
