Kyoto Kumano Jinja is an ancient shrine enshrined near Kyoto University, established through the conveyance of kami from the Kumano Sanzan. It enshrines Izanami no Mikoto, Izanagi no Mikoto, Hayatama Wo no Mikoto, and Kotoshiro Wo no Mikoto as its principal deities, revered as kami of good relationships and safe childbirth. With a history continuing from the late Heian period, it has served as the center of Kumano faith in Kyoto, welcoming many pilgrims. In particular, it is known for the symbol of the "Yatagarasu" and serves as a guide deity. Near Kyoto University, it receives many prayers from students for academic success and employment fortune, and is cherished as a kami of scholarship. Despite its location in a quiet residential district, it preserves a solemn atmosphere as a precious shrine.
