Gokoku-ji is a Nichiren Buddhist temple located in Teramachi, Shimabara City, Nagasaki Prefecture. Its mountain name is Chokyu-zan. Within the temple grounds stands the mausoleum of Ryuzoji Takanobu, the powerful Sengoku warlord who once dominated Kyushu, along with a haiku monument dedicated to wandering poet Taneda Santoka. The temple also enshrines the Thirty Guardian Deities of Rebirth, designated as a cultural property of Shimabara City. Deeply intertwined with the history of Shimabara, the temple continues to serve as a spiritual anchor for the local community.
