Ikaho Jinja is an ancient shrine long revered as the mountain deity protecting Ikaho Hot Spring, holding the rank of the third chief shrine of Kozuke Province. According to tradition, its founding dates to the reign of Emperor Sujin in the tenth generation, and it has since commanded the devotion of hot spring pilgrims as the protector of the thermal waters. Situated at the uppermost point of the stone steps of the shopping district, the shrine commands a magnificent view over the entire hot spring town. Its principal deities, Ookuninushi no Mikoto and Sukunahikona no Mikoto, are also gods of medicine, and together with the efficacy of the hot spring waters, the shrine is renowned for blessings in ailment relief and longevity. Equally celebrated as a deity of love and marriage, it stands as Ikaho's emblematic presence, drawing countless couples to pledge their affection.
