History

Byakko

Nestled at the foot of Mt. Shiun in the mountains of Sakyo, Kyoto, Taiunji is a historic temple of the Tendai Shomon sect. Also known as Iwakura Kannon, the temple enshrines the Eleven-faced Kannon Bodhisattva as its principal image. The compassionate gaze of the Kannon has long provided solace to those burdened by suffering and mental anguish, who have sought healing at this sacred site through the ages. Amid the pure air of Iwakura, the Kannon continues its eternal watch over all sentient beings.
