History

Byakko

Located north of Kaisen Pond in Abo, Matsubara City, Osaka Prefecture, this shrine enshrines three deities: Sugawara no Michizane in the main hall, Prince Abo (Abo Shinno) in the Prince Abo Shrine, and Ichikishimahime no Mikoto in the Itsukushima Shrine. Its former shrine rank was village shrine (sonshu). Standing within the grounds are three sacred camphor trees, including a great kusunoki and a paired couple kusunoki, said to have been planted by Prince Abo some 1,200 years ago. The shrine also participates in the Kaiun Matsubara Rosha Mairi, a pilgrimage circuit of six shrines in the Matsubara area that draws devotees seeking good fortune.
