History

Byakko

When one speaks of Kotohira Jinja in Kagawa, one refers to the nationally famous 'Konpira-san.' Long venerated as the guardian deity of maritime traffic, so many pilgrims visit that it is said 'one must visit Konpira-san once in a lifetime'—a shrine of proven divine efficacy. The path up the long stone steps to the main shrine is like a spiritual discipline cleansing both body and mind. The enshrined deity of Kotohira-gu is Ohmononushi, known for the benefits of maritime safety and thriving business. The beautiful grounds set against Sanuki Fuji offer magnificent vistas that deeply move pilgrims' hearts. The greater the effort expended in climbing, the greater the blessings one shall surely receive.
