Sonyoin is a tatchu (sub-temple) of Honpoji in the Kamigyo district of Kyoto, belonging to the Nichiren sect of Buddhism. Together with Kyogyoin and Kyozouin, it forms part of the Honpoji complex. Bound by the Shinshi Hoen lineage, the temple quietly carries forward the teachings of the Lotus Sutra established by Nichiren. Visitors come to place their palms together and recite the sacred Namu Myoho Renge Kyo.
