History

Byakko

Akasaka Hikawa Jinja is an ancient shrine that has watched over the Akasaka district since the Edo period. Receiving the patronage of the Tokugawa shogunate, it served as an important defense against evil for Edo Castle. During the Meiji period, it became known for the Akasaka Hikawa Festival, and the grand autumn festival still draws crowds today. Though located in the city center, its serene grounds provide a special space that soothes the hearts of busy modern people. Known for its divine virtues of matchmaking, it never lacks for visitors seeking auspicious bonds.
