History

Byakko

Yasukuni Jinja was established in Meiji 2 (1869) by the imperial will of the Meiji Emperor to enshrine the spirits of those who sacrificed their precious lives for their country. Initially called Tokyo Shoshinsha, it was renamed Yasukuni Jinja in Meiji 12. The name "Yasukuni" carries the meaning of "bringing peace and stability to the nation," embodying wishes for peaceful nation-building. In spring, approximately 500 cherry blossoms bloom in splendor, making it one of Tokyo's foremost cherry blossom viewing sites. The Yuushukan museum displays valuable historical materials, allowing visitors to learn from history.
