Toyokawa Inari is actually a temple of the Soto Zen sect, but it is widely beloved as a shrine due to its famous Inari. This sacred site, opened in the Muromachi period, enshrines Toyokawa Dakini Shuten, a Buddhist deity. During the Edo period, it attracted the faith of merchants and became widely known for its benefits regarding business prosperity. Today, many pilgrims visit from throughout the nation, and the temple grounds display the spectacular sight of a thousand red votive flags standing in rows.
