History

Byakko

Hatonomori Hachiman Jinja is an ancient shrine watching over the Sendagaya district. Beloved by many since the Edo period, it is particularly known as a sacred site for shogi (Japanese chess). Within the shrine grounds stands a shogi hall where masters of the shogi world come to offer prayers for victory. Notably, the shrine also features a Fuji mound, a rarity in Tokyo, where visitors can experience the feeling of climbing Mount Fuji. In modern times, it continues to walk alongside the development of Sendagaya and attracts many devoted worshippers as a vibrant shrine.
