Maegami-ji is a historic temple known as the 64th pilgrimage site of the Shikoku Eighty-Eight Temple Circuit. Located at the foot of Mount Ishizuchi, this temple has served as a center of Mount Ishizuchi worship, welcoming many ascetics and pilgrims throughout history. Possessing a unique atmosphere where mountain worship and Buddhism blend together, it is also known as the starting point for climbing Mount Ishizuchi. Surrounded by beautiful nature throughout the seasons, the autumn foliage is particularly magnificent. This sacred site befitting the foot of a spiritual mountain combines the solemnity of a training ground with the warmth of welcoming pilgrims.
