History

Yatsuki Jinja is enshrined at the northern edge of the Otogi district in Tenri City, Nara Prefecture. Read variously as "yatsuki" or "yatogi," this shrine is considered one of the candidate shrines for the ancient Shiki-nai-sha (imperially recognized shrine) "Yatogi Jinja" of Yamato Province, Yamabe District. It enshrines four deities: Takemikazuchi no Mikoto, Hime no Okami, Futsunushi no Mikoto, and Amenokoyane no Mikoto. It holds the former shrine rank of village shrine (sonsha). The name Yatsuki may be a mistranscription of Otogi, and connections with Hachiken Shrines across Japan are also considered possible.
