History
Byodoji is a Soto Zen temple in Miwa, Sakurai City, Nara Prefecture, bearing the mountain name Miwayama. Its principal image is an eleven-faced Kannon. Together with Omiwaji and Jogan-ji, it once served as a temple affiliated with Miwa Myojin (now Omiwa Shrine), known collectively as the Miwa Bessho. The temple preserves the history of the fusion of the ancient Miwa faith and Buddhism at the foot of Mount Miwa.
