History

Byakko

Nakacho Hikawa Shrine is enshrined in Senju Nakacho, Adachi Ward, Tokyo, and is revered as one of the principal guardian shrines of the Senju area. The exact founding date is unknown, but tradition holds that the shrine already existed by the late Muromachi period. The principal deity is Susanoo no Mikoto, known for blessings of protection from misfortune, warding off disease, and household safety. During the Edo period, the shrine drew deep veneration from residents and travelers along the Nikko Kaido post town of Senju-juku. Despite repeated losses from fire, floods, and wartime destruction, the shrine was rebuilt each time, and continues to stand as a guardian of the local community.
