History

Byakko

Yoshimizu Jinja is nestled deep within Yoshino Mountain, a shrine imbued with the weight of history. Originally flourishing as a sacred site of Shugendo mountain asceticism, it later became known as the imperial residence of the Southern Court under Emperor Go-Daigo, a place of great historical significance. Legend has it that Minamoto no Yoshitsune, Shizuka Gozen, and Benkei spent time in this place. Cherished alongside the cherry blossoms of Yoshino, this shrine has been the stage for countless historical events and is truly a special place where one can feel the heart of Japan. In spring, it is enveloped in beautiful cherry blossoms, bringing solace to the hearts of worshippers.
