History
Kasayama Kojinja is an ancient shrine enshrining the Kojin deity, situated in the town of Sakurai. The Kojin deity was originally known as a Buddhist deity and has been worshipped as the kami of kitchens and cooking stoves. As the Kojin is also a fire deity, it has long been revered as a guardian against household disasters and fire. Successive generations of local people have made pilgrimage to this shrine, praying for the safety and prosperity of their homes. The place name Kasa itself evokes the ancient history of this region.
