History

Byakko

Aoi Jinja is an ancient shrine situated next to Jindaiji, dedicated to Aoi Wani no Okami, the deity of water. Its founding dates back to antiquity, when it was revered by local people as a guardian spirit protecting the water sources of this region. The shrine shares a deep connection with Jindaiji, and during the period of shinbutsu-shugo (syncretism of Shinto and Buddhism), they were worshipped as one. True to the water deity's nature, the shrine is known for prayers against drought and protection from water disasters, drawing devoted faith from those engaged in agriculture. Today, in its serene grounds, visitors can purify their hearts through worship at this hidden gem.
