History

Byakko

Taga Jinja in Hachioji, Tokyo, enshrines Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto, the divine couple of Japanese creation mythology. As a branch shrine of Taga Taisha in Shiga Prefecture, it has been revered for matchmaking, family prosperity, and longevity since ancient times. The shrine is believed to have been established as a guardian deity for the local community, providing protection through the construction of Hachioji Castle and the development of the Koshu Kaido post town during the Edo period. The grand festival is held on the first Saturday and Sunday of August.
